Uomini in guerra. Le forze armate nella guerra di liberazione 1943-1945

The images of the contribution made by the new Italian Armed Forces in fighting Nazi-Fascim proposed by Lorenzo and Marco Lodi

Casa della Memoria e della Storia from the14th to the 30th of September 2011 "Uomini in guerra. Le forze armate nella guerra di liberazione 1943-1945". This exhibition gives us an idea of how tragic this period of our history was, starting from July the 25th 1943 the date when the Fascism was ousted. The Armistice of Cassibile, signed on the eighth of September of the same year ended with the liberation of the great cities of the north by the Italian Armed Forces. The panels illustrate the dramatic events following the unconditional surrender of the Italian Force.

The panels each one following one another illustrate a series of dramatic events following the unconditional surrender of Italy, starting from the tragic fate of the Italian soldiers, abandoned by the higher ranks. They had no clear idea of how to go on with their lives, finding themselves abandoned in France, Corsica and the Balkans as well as on the Ionian and Dodecanese islands. Along this path the visitor can follow the reconstruction of the new army, the creation of the I Raggruppamento Motorizzato, for the first time engaged in the battle of Monte Lungo on the eighth of December 1943 - the Gruppi di Combattimento and the liberation of the major northern cities by over 530,000 soldiers who participated in these operations in our country.

The idea behind the Uomini in Guerra is to reflect about the contribution of the new Italian Armed Forces against Nazi-Fascism. The price paid by the 87,000 men and 40,000 prisoners interned by the Nazis because they refused to collaborate with the Republica Sociale Italiana. There were also many thousands of soldiers who deserted and joined the Partisans. The panels then terminated with pictures of the Marina,Aeronautica, Carabinieri, Guardia di Finanza, Polizia e Vigili del Fuoco.

The exhibition is promoted by Roma Capitale - Assessorato alle Politiche Culturali e Centro Storico in collaboration with Zètema Progetto Cultura proposed by Lorenzo and Marco Lodi of the Sezione di Roma ANCFARGL "Associazione Nazionale Combattenti Forze Armate Regolari Guerra di Liberazione" Salvo D'Acquisto e della Biblioteca della Casa della Memoria e della Storia together with the contribution of the Regione Lazio - Assessorato alla Cultura, Arte e Sport under the aupices of the Provincia di Roma, Università degli Studi Roma Tre, Dipartimento Studi Storici Geografici Antropologici, Laboratorio Geocartografico "Giuseppe Caraci" e Vertical - Fondazione Italiana per la Cura della Paralisi onlus.
