The Teatro Biblioteca Quarticciolo inaugurated on the12th of December 2007 is a theatre located on the outskirts of Rome. It was built on the remains of an old market in a Municipio Roma V11 suburb following its recovery and innovation.
Presenting the programme provided the opportunity of gauging the success of the Shopping Centre, located in via Ostuni during its long inauguration festival. Covering a period of almost 50 days of programming, from December through January, 14 performances were offered combined with tens of meetings and workshops in the library area apart from the usual lending and consulting activities.
The performances were attended by a large number of people and the theatre in fact attracted a total of 3326 spectators on an average of 158 people per event, that is fully booked in a hall having 160 seats. Regarding the Library, 300 new applications were made and 1400 books and audiovisual media were lent; 450 young people took part in the work-shops and the total attendance was approximately 2800.
On the basis of its February/June program, the Quarticciolo Library and Theatre it is clear that an open space is well suited to all types of live performances offering a an eclectic playbill appropriate for all types of public. The new collaborators for the theatre area, Paola Cortellesi and Valerio Mastandrea, accompanied live with the music of Danilo Rea and Roberto Gatto, open the season on the 24th and 25th of February at 9 p.m. with the performance called Pasolini in Jazz, inspired by the masterpieces written by the poet from Friuli for the films Accatone and Mamma Roma.
Theatre, music, dancing, events for boys and girls, circus, meetings with artists, readings and intervals for festivals based on the life of the Community took place on the Quarticciolo stage. A great deal of artists appeared on the scene such as Giorgio Tirabassi, Ambrogio Sparagna, Ascanio Celestini, Maria Paiato, Ginevra Di Marco, Gaspare Nasuto, Valerio Aprea, Ninni Bruschetta, Rolando Ravello, Massimo Nunzi, the Masoko and the Agatharandagio dancers.
The extraodinary attendance and participation of the suburb recompenses the iniziative and the effort of the institutions involved in the project, the result of the profitable combined efforts of the Assessorato alle Politiche Culturali di Roma Capitale and the Municipio Roma VII, in collaboration with the Istituzione Biblioteche di Roma with the support of the Regione Lazio, of the Ministero per i Beni e le Attività Culturali and the Gioco del Lotto-Lottomatica. The theatre area is programmed and managed by the Teatro di Roma, in line with the institutional role of the Teatro Stabile Metropolitano.
The Teatro Biblioteca Quarticciolo, was founded thanks to the financial commitment of the Provincia di Roma, starting from the recovery and transformation of the previous Quarticciolo covered market, a construction following the founding of the historical suburb was finished in 1960.
A new polifunctional centre, a structure was created that was intended to house a theatre and a library, covering as well as an area for exhibitions and a refreshment space to be opened shortly. A new cultural hub open to all the needs of the territory to be used by people of all ages and available at all hours in this part of the city with a high-density young population.
The Theatre houses 150 seats and is the third theatre in the outer belt after the Teatro del Lido and the Teatro Tor Bella Monaca. The Library offers 70 reading places, the thirty-sixth in the order of the Municipal Library System. It is a place where many different languages meet -P Books with 'many' publications, 'Spectators' and 'Readers'.
